long time no blog.
So I realize that I haven't written much recently but oddly enough it has been something that I've been meaning to do. I have things that I'd like to express that up until today I haven't quite been able to put out there, for one reason or another. Now here they are.
For the last four Sundays I have been going to this really great new church called Catalyst Ventura. It's only 12 weeks old (I know an odd reference for a church but still...) and services are held in a movie theatre. Yes, you heard right a movie theatre, and it is awesome. The first time that I went I wasn't really sure what to expect and what the atmosphere was like, but it is truly a great thing. I'm not really sure how to describe what the difference is for me from the churches that I am accustomed to attending. There is a great passion for people and the community and being a comfortable place, but I find that at many churches I've been to. The way the worship service is arranged is not all that different from what I've seen other places. The friendliness I've experienced is not all that different either. But there is something different about it and it is exciting. After going there for a while I went back to my other church (it's not my old church but it's also not really my church anymore) and it was so different sitting there. While it wasn't bad it was interesting to experience how a place that i essentially grew up in and had been so comfortable around for so long, wasn't as comfortable as it used to be. Example. My first sunday at Catalyst I didn't know what to do with my hands when I stood to sing because with the stadium seating (which is awesome) I didn't have a row of chairs right in front of me like I was so accustomed to. Today when I went back to EPC it was odd because I had people in front of me and everything felt so close. My comfortability switched so quickly. It's interesting. Something that was cool about today was the band that lead the musical portion of worship. They're called Urban Rescue and they're really good. I actually went to high school with the lead singer and had heard great things about their stuff but had never had the opportunity to hear them before. It was pretty sweet.
Recently I've been reading more, because it's something fun to do. Not that it hasn't always been fun but I've not got a whole lot of other fun things to do. Anyway, a couple of days ago I finished rereading The Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig. (The books are The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, The Masque of the Black Tulip, and The Deception of the Emerald Ring.) They're really good historical fiction books set in 1803 England and France as well as present day (or I guess I should say 2003 which is when the first book is set and only a couple of weeks have passed through the three books). Anyway, I absolutely love them and am really excited because the fourth in the series comes out at the end of January and I can't wait to read it. At the same time I'm bummed because I now have to wait 2 months to read it. Oh well, I suppose I'll survive.
In other news I've got a bit of a job lined up. It's not much but I'm going to be a nanny for my friends Liz and Josh and their baby Zoey for a while. It's three mornings a week and I'm looking forward to it. I'm now going to have something to do, and I get to hang out with a really awesome little kid. And she really is cool. Plus, it's a good time to be making a bit of money you know with holidays coming and presents to be purchased. Hmm... I should really figure out what I'm getting people. Only 23 more days until Christmas (unless my math is off and that is entirely possible).
Well I think that is a long enough post and hopefully I won't wait another month before I write again.
Also, if you like the band Sherwood (like all of you should), you need to go to their Myspace page (www.myspace.com/sherwood), go their videos section and watch their show. Aptly titled "The Sherwood Show." There are four episodes so far and they really are funny.
