bird's nest.

I just saw this commercial during the Olympics and it made me smile. This isn't the best version of it that I found but it has the lyrics and I liked that.
Here you go.

tape.

Those of you who know me know that my room is a mess. A complete mess. I can't deny it, though sometimes I would like to. Anyway, since I'm not staying at my house right now I have time to clean it without having to be in it. So far it's going really well, and I'm pretty close to having gone through everything.
Today while I was going through some drawers I discovered a few old tapes that I had back in the day. One of them was Jars of Clay, and I was so stoked. That is such a good album and the tape reminded me of some fun old summers. In fact I can tell you exactly when I bought that tape. It was the summer before 6th grade at the Forrest Home gift shop. That was the first time I heard them. Then it turns out that I went to the school they met and formed at. So anyway, my truck has a tape player in it and so when I left I put it in and started to listen to it. It's fun. Good times, good times.

In honor of that tape I found this on YouTube. I never actually saw this when it was first out but that's okay.

iphone mess.

Today I got a new iPhone. A new old iPhone, that is.

The night before the brand new iPhone came out I started having problems with my phone freezing up. I restored it and it was fine for a few weeks. Then while I was at Pondo it started doing the whole freezing thing again, but less frequently. Last Friday night it froze all night when I plugged it in, but after restarting it it was again fine. Then two nights ago it started not letting me use my texting. It would start to open then go back to the home page. After messing about with it and trying to restart it I could not get it to turn back on and iTunes said that I needed to restore it. So I turned it off for the night and when I got up yesterday morning I got to work on it. I was able to restore it but that took two tries, and it still wasn't working properly. As my next course of action I called Apple and spent an hour on the phone trying to fix the problem. We went through some more of the stuff that I had already done and after a bit it seemed to be working, but I wasn't convinced. Sure enough mere hours later it was acting up again, and it remained off the rest of the night.

Today I made my way down to the Apple store in Thousand Oaks, and managed to get in for an appointment. After looking at it and the report that the guy had made yesterday they gave me a new phone. They still don't know what was wrong with it. It is a relief to have a phone though that is working.

It was annoying but it's over now.

I'm currently watching Atonement and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. So far it's well made but I'm not sure how I feel about the story line. Last week I watched The Jane Austen Book Club and it was really good. I've been watching a lot of movies lately, for lack much else to do. It is enjoyable though.

This was boring. Sorry. I'll try better next time.

Note: I just realized that this new old iPhone has the old software on it, not the new stuff, and I'm actually excited about it. I dislike certain things about the new stuff, so it's nice to have the old back. I'll try and manage with this until it makes me update or I miss something terribly about the new one. Plus, it's odd having a new phone because it's just the same as the other one, but I know that it's different. A bit of an odd experience. That's all.

500 miles.

I love this song. It's a classic one hit wonder song, and I love it.

You can thank my watching of Mama's Boy for this video. (The song wasn't in the movie but one of their other ones was.)

post pondo 08.

I'm tired. Why? I just spent the last 5 days at Ponderosa Pines Christian Camp in Running Springs with the middle school kids from EPC. It was an amazing time but I am so tired now. In fact I came home and left pretty quickly afterward to head over to the place where I'm currently housesitting so I could chill in some quiet and not have to worry about doing things or making conversation or anything. Nat came over for a little while and we chatted about our weeks and shared some good stories and even better laughs. Currently I'm watching Never Been Kissed, which I absolutely love. Such a classic movie for me. It's almost over though and I forgot what I decided to watch next. Oh well, I'll figure it out again when the time comes.

So... the week at Pondo was great. It was probably the best trip to that I have ever had to Pondo in six trips to summer camp and one trip to winter camp. There were a number of factors that played into making this the best week up there but I'll only name a few.

The first was definitely the kids who came with us. Sarah was the only girl, and then we had five boys: Justin, Paul, Luke, Connor, and Darrick. It was a bummer that more girls could not have come, but Sarah & I made the best of the trip. As a group we had a really fun time going to the pool, playing games (like yahtzee, and connect four), playing disc golf (I was what you might call bad at it but it was fun anyway), playing foosball (that I played pretty well), and just hanging out.

The second was our cabin. For the first time we had a really fun, chill, nice, easy going cabin. Four of the other five girls were in or graduated from high school and one was in middle school (which was overall nice for Sarah), and they were really enjoyable funny gals. Their leader, Emily, and our staff counselor, Rachel, were great too. Plus there were only nine of us in a 12 person cabin so we had some extra room to move around and spread out. (I doubled up on mattresses and slept much better than with just one.)

The last that I will mention was that we won the team championship!!! I was so excited! It was the first time that I have won and it was great. My teams have come close before but we've never been able to capitalize and pull out that 1st place. We had a really great team to make it all happen. We had two guys cabins on our team, both with mostly (if not all) high schoolers. Not only were they strong in the games but they were also creative and made up our entire ultimate cheer. I was impressed. (We also got first in ultimate cheer, in case you were wondering.)

Plus, I had a good time getting to know some of the staff, most of whom were new. I played some great games of Nertz with Gretchen and Joey, had some good conversations with Peter, and saw Hope again. (Hope was our staff counselor two summers ago and we were her first cabin.)

The downside was that I came home a bit beat up. Nothing like when I was in 7th grade and fell of the horse at summer camp, but beat up none the less. The first injuries occurred while playing a game called tube tow, during which I skinned both of my knees and a couple of spots on my feet. The second (and thankfully last) was the three to four inch cut I got on the bottom of my right foot while getting into the pool yesterday. It's a little painful to walk on but not too bad overall.

I suppose that's it really. It was quite the week and if you want to know more about it I'd be happy to tell you in person or over the phone, but no more typing about it. I remembered what I was going to watch - The Truth About Cats & Dogs, another classic. I'm into watching slightly older movies at the moment. And by slightly older I mean ones around 10 years old. Good times.

One last thing. I'm planning on getting my camp pictures up within the next day or so, so please check out my flickr page (as usual see link to the right).
